John Boyd's decision cycle of Observe, Orient, Decide, Act describes how an agent processes information and acts in adversarial contexts. The framework's central claim is that operating inside an opponent's OODA loop — cycling faster while remaining accurate — produces decisive advantage by inducing confusion and paralysis. Boyd developed the framework during fighter pilot work in the 1950s-60s and progressively expanded it into a general theory of conflict applicable to military strategy, business competition, and individual decision-making.
